Mandatory earthquake insurance: what it covers, how to obtain it, and 2026 premium rates.
What Is DASK?
It is the earthquake insurance offered by the Natural Disaster Insurance Institution and made compulsory by the Disaster Insurance Law No. 6305. It provides financial protection for homes against earthquakes.
Which Properties Are Covered?
Buildings registered in the land registry and built as residences, together with independent units in them such as shops or offices, are covered by compulsory earthquake insurance. Public buildings and structures in village settlement areas are outside the compulsory scope.
Premium Calculation
The premium is calculated according to construction type, the earthquake risk zone of the building and its gross floor area. In 2026 the minimum premium ranges from 505 TL to 1,951 TL; since Balıkesir is in risk group 1, the minimum premium here is at least 1,951 TL.
Coverage Amount
Since 1 July 2026 the maximum coverage has been 2,407,723 TL; this amount is updated monthly. Additional cover above this can be obtained with optional home insurance.
Where Can You Get It?
It can be taken out through insurance companies, agencies, banks and the DASK website.
A Requirement for Title Deed Transactions
No title deed transfer can be carried out without a valid DASK policy. If the renewal date has passed, it must be renewed.
